In light of the recent disaster that has befallen our brothers and sisters in Batangas, Cavite, Laguna and other parts of the country, we urge everyone who can spare their time and resources to help out.

Why Your Help is Needed

The devastation caused by the eruption of the Taal volcano is far and wide. The Batangas province is home to tens of thousands of people that are directly affected. But the ashes brought by the eruption reached as far as central Luzon, meaning more people are affected indirectly.

In every natural disaster, the impact is always long term. From the loss of lives, loss of property, livelihood, limitation to no access to essential services. People are displaced and living in often packed evacuation centers, with minimal facilities. Most rely on external support, from families not affected, and from the rest of the population ready and willing to serve the needs of the people displaced.

Inclusive Support

All people displaced are rendered vulnerable but the most vulnerable among them are people with disabilities, and the elderly. They experience difficulties in movement, communication and access to their basic and specific needs.

They should not be left behind if the provision of support – food, clothing, assistive devices, medication, and health support. From experience, because of the chaos and lack of coordination, many people with disabilities and the elderly are ignored or are not provided of their specific needs.

Through the cooperation with the Batangas Provincial PDAO officers, different government agencies and other colleagues in the sector, the Isang Bata Isang Tasa organization helps with information dissemination and fundraising towards the specific needs of people with disabilities.
